The man in this picture was my great, great grandfather, W.S. Koogler. That’s my great grandfather in the stroller. He coined the name “Billy the Kid” in an article he wrote about that now infamous outlaw in the Las Vegas Independent. See below…
Dec. 3, 1880—-W. S. Koogler, editor of the Las Vegas Independent,
writes an article about the lawlessness throughout the territory and
basically casts all the blame on Billy Bonney, who he calls ”Billy the
Kid.” This marks the first time that this soon to be infamous moniker
is used in print.
